Welcome to Newark Kenpo Karate. We teach the art of American Kenpo Karate founded by Senior Grand Master Ed Parker, 10th degree Black Belt, and developed by Master Paul Mills, 10th Degree Black Belt, and creator of the system as we know it today. Knowledge of self-defense is taught howing the application of the movements. Controlled movements are practiced with a partner. Power, accuracy and effectiveness are practiced using different types of equipment, including large targets and small hand-held targets. As you progress, you will be tested when ready and you'll move on to new skills and techniques. Your proficiency in Kenpo Karate will be reflected by the color of the belt you'll wear. Newark Kenpo Karate is a member of the American Kenpo Karate International Association and teaches the art of Kenpo as outlined by Master Paul Mills. Although the Ed Parker system is our basis, the AKKI has expanded the standard Kenpo curriculum to include many new Empty Hand Techniques and Forms as well as Grappling, Groundfighting, and Weapons (knives and sticks) instruction. We feature updated one and two person interactive training drills designed to develop spontaneity and proficiency in the practitioner of this explosive and extremely effective modern art of American Kenpo Karate.
